Last Saturday was the second coming of Content at the Ace Hotel. By any measure, it was a huge success. And, despite being inside a small hotel room for nearly 10 hours, it was great time! I didn’t find out how many attendees were there, but it was A LOT! A big thank you to the Portland Mercury and their crew for organizing and coordinating this huge event!
The theme for my room was a relaxing beach party at sunset located ambiguously somewhere south of the border. This is the inspiration behind the Con El Sol Spring Collection and Fashion Show coming up this Thursday.
My friend and collaborator, Jillian Rabe, was there with me during the set up. Jillian is also the producer of the upcoming fashion show. We had a load in time of 12:30 and were concerned that it would be difficult to get everything in place by the 4pm press time. So with this pressure, we decided that drinking a beer was necessary. Ha!
Armed with a cold cerveza, we were off and running. The room turned out great! The fake fire was the star of the show, of course, but I think we succeeded in creating a very relaxing ambiance.
We had an awesome video projection with relaxing flamenco guitar music and wave sounds incorporated. A big ridiculous THANK YOU to Sean Barrett for putting that together for us. I think it completed the room. Jillian went out to the Oregon coast to get grass from the dunes and some sand. She is awesome! Lastly, the styrofoam cooler loaded with cold Pacificos completed the room.

Finally, we actually attended this inviting beach party! It was a lot of fun. We are all clad in a few pieces from the spring collection.
While I did not get pictures from the other rooms, they were just awesome! The mime from across the hall shuffled over to warm his hands on our fire. Love it!!
Here, Jillian and I are all dolled up for the beach party and acted as though we were warming ourselves by the fire. The fire, of course, was merely one of those LED blowing silk flames. It was a pretty impressive facsimile.
Lots and lots of friends, customers, acquaintances strolled through the room, some lingering for awhile to enjoy the installation. I wish I took more pictures. These though will have to suffice. Can’t wait until next time!!
